HYDERABAD, May 14: Justice Shabbir Ahmad of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, on Wednesday set aside the conviction of an accused in a Karo-kari case.

Hassan Chandio was sentenced to life imprisonment by the second additional district judge of Nawabshah on March 13, 1996, for killing his wife, Zaibul, on the pretext of Karo-kari in 1989.

The counsel of the appellant contended before the court that the trial court had sentenced his client on suspicion and there was neither any evidence nor eye-witness which could prove that Hassan Chandio was involved in the murder. Justice Ahmad acquitted Hassan Chandio of the charges.—BoC
