LAHORE, June 19: The Cricket Commentators Club of Pakistan (CCCP) has urged the government to appoint former PCB chairman Khalid Mahmood as the next chief of the board in order to improve the country’s cricketing affairs.
In a press statement issued here the other day, president of the club Mohammad Idrees said Khalid had been closely monitoring the affairs of the PCB since long and therefore he was in a relatively much better position to bring improvement in Pakistan cricket.
It may be mentioned here that the Inter-provincial Coordination Committee (IPCC) has recommended the names of former Test captain Majid Khan, experienced commentator Chishty Mujahid and retired bureaucrat Mumtaz Haider Rizvi for the post of interim PCB chairman after Zaka Ashraf, the incumbent chairman, was restrained from working by the Islamabad High Court.
Interestingly, Chishty, despite featuring in the IPCC recommendation list, also favoured Khalid for the top PCB position.
Other notables of the CCCP, who backed Khalid’s appointment as PCB chief include Iftikhar Ahmed, Munir Hussain, Tariq Raheem Bucha, Raja Asad, Rehan Nawaz, Ehtesham-ul-Haq, A.R. Zaidi and Brig. Asghar Mian.
Meanwhile, sources said besides the three nominees of the IPCC, three former regional heads namely Mian Munir (Multan), Khawaja Nadeem (LCCA) and Zulfiqar Malik (Sialkot) are also recommended by the PML-N stalwarts for the post of PCB chief. Therefore, in all six names are lying before Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
