QUETTA, May 13: Former president Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari on Monday held the bureaucracy responsible for creating suspicion among the provinces on the National Finance Commission issue and stressed that a formula based on social and economic indicators should be adopted to resolve the matter.

Speaking at the meet the press programme of Quetta Press Club, the Millat Party chief said disruption of gas supply should not be permitted and the government must ensure the writ of law.

Sardar Leghari said distribution of resources among the federating units was a contentious issue and a formula should be prepared to satisfy the people. He maintained that wrong figures provided by the bureaucrats of Islamabad had created doubts.

He claimed that the issue could not be settled if a province stressed the population parameter and others demanded the criteria of revenue collection, area and backwardness. He said his party’s proposal of basing the formula on social and economic indicators was the best solution. He said provision of basic necessities to the people should be concentrated upon.
