KARACHI, May 13: Speakers here on Tuesday called for efforts by the public and private sectors to take their share of business in rebuilding Afghanistan.

The conference on “The role of Public and private enterprises of Pakistan in rebuilding of Afghanistan”, was organized by the Karachi Institute of Economic and Technology on its premises.

“Among all other neighbouring countries, Pakistan enjoys geographical advantage to help the Afghan government in rebuilding infrastructure, promoting bilateral trade and providing humanitarian assistance,” observed Gen (retd) Ghulam Umer.

He said the proposed pipeline project from Central Asia might provide a foundation not only for economic prosperity but also lead to the greater regional coordination.

He said the project would not only boost the economy of Afghanistan but would also influence the bilateral relations between India and Pakistan.—APP
