GUJRANWALA, May 12: A bailiff of a local court on Monday recovered two brothers who had been detained illegally in the lock-up of the Sabzi Mandi police station for the last three days.
The police took Shabber Yar and his brother Sikander into custody at the behest of their rivals and detained them without registering any case against them. The mother of victims moved court on whose orders the bailiff recovered the detainees and produced them before court. The judge, Riazul Hassan, summoned the SHO and other staff before court on Tuesday (today).
POs held: Two proclaimed offenders were arrested on Monday after brief encounters at Ladheywala Warraich village.
Police said Muhammad Nawaz of Gorala Wahando had killed his eight rivals in an ambush in Wahando area some five years ago. On a tip-off that accused was present in his hideout, a police party raided there to arrest him. Taking in the situation, the accused opened fire on police which was returned as policemen were already on the alert. After the brief exchange of fire, PO Nawaz gave himself up to police.
Another PO Azeem alias Jeva was arrested by the Range police in a raid on the same day. He had killed his rival Zulfikar Ahmad of Daska in tehsil courts about a year ago.
It may be mentioned that the Lahore High Court had issued directive for the arrest of POs.
Meanwhile, the Range police claimed to have arrested 17 proclaimed offenders and 53 court fugitives during the general hold-up here on Monday.
DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal said the police also recovered 12 rifles, 51 pistols, 12 revolvers, 13 guns and 212 cartridges besides looted goods, including five vehicles, from their possession.
SUSPENDED: An SHO was suspended from service for dereliction of duty by the Range police chief and issued him a show-cause notice here on Monday.
SHO Shabbir Ahmad Khan was assigned the task toarrest proclaimed offender Muhammad Azeem alias Jeva, but he failed to arrest him.
