HEC launches IT project at FJWU

ISLAMABAD, May 11: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a project of computerization and networking enhancement at Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi, at a cost of Rs34 million.

The project, to be completed in 12 months, was approved in Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP) held recently at HEC campus in Islamabad.

The main objective of the project is to provide better working environment not only to the employees and instructors but also the students of the university in order to compete in the ever advancing information technology world.

The project would enable faculty members of various department to use sophisticated and precision equipment for their research. The scheme would also provide the women with job- oriented training.

By implementation of the project, the scheme would produce trained women in specialized discipline of information technology. The women research and resource centre, psychological research centre, and academic blocks as well as administration block would be interconnected through an intranet structure.

The university would also maintain its own web server mail server through the project.

The university would improve the existing website by incorporating news and press releases, list of publications, newsletters, job opportunities. Short and long term various computer related courses such as e-commerce, networking, computer graphics, and basic information technology, literacy courses would be offered to women in order to improve their efficiency.

The project envisages to prepare and train qualified human resource for the country with bright job perspective as professional programmes offered would be in line with the national and international job market demands.
