ISLAMABAD, May 11: Activists of Citizens Peace Committee (CPC) on Sunday held a demo at Aabapara Chowk on Sunday to express their outrage against the nuclear explosions conducted by India on May 11, 1998.

The participants were holding placards inscribed with slogans like “Deweaponize the society” and “Settle all Indo-Pak disputes through dialogue”. They condemned the nuclearization of the region, saying it had destabalized the entire region. They said atomic explosions had spurred nuclear arms race in South Asia.

In the wake of international events of the last two years, Pakistan’s situation has become more vulnerable on account of its declared nuclear capabilities, the participants observed.

The peace activists stressed the need for nuclear-free South Asia. They hailed the recent efforts made by both India and Pakistan in reducing the tension and normalizing the bilateral relations.
