RAWALPINDI, May 11: A mini sports complex, school and basic health centre will be built on the Punjab government’s land located in Adiala.

The provincial minister for law and local bodies, Raja Mohammad Basharat said here on Sunday while talking to newsmen at a dinner arranged by the Rawalpindi Athletics Association.

Mr Basharat said the government would soon take measures to ensure the building of football and hockey grounds.

The minister said the government was well aware of the dearth of playgrounds and parks in the city but owing to the unavailability of land in various parts of the city, the dream of many developmental projects could not be materialized.

He said, not a single school was constructed in the seven union councils which had been recently included in the jurisdiction of the municipal administration owing to the unavailability of government land.

The minister remarked that the government was interested in promoting athletics and Kabaddi.

He said he would ask the Tehsil Nazim to provide sporting facility at the municipal stadium to the registered organizations free of cost.

He said that the rehabilitation of the Liaqat Bagh Sport Complex would be carried out soon where more facilities would be available to the players.

The minister also awarded medals to those men and women who had achieved positions in athletics competition.

He said the Punjab chief minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, was also interested in starting the extension work at Bakra Mandi Chowk as soon as possible.
