KARACHI, May 11: As many as 121 vehicles — 59 cars and 62 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in parts of the city during the past one week.

According to police statistics, bandits took away 33 cars at gunpoint and stole 26 others.

Twenty-seven motorcycles were hijacked and 35 others stolen during the week.

The number of incidents marks an increasing trend. It may be ascribed to the fact that since a major strength of the police were deployed for the security of the prime minister, who is on a visit to the city, giving a free hand to criminals to deprive people of their vehicles and other belongings.

DIES OF BURNS: A middle-aged man admitted to a hospital with serious burns a couple of days back died on Sunday.

Police said Siddique Ismail, 55, was boiling water at his home in Orangi Town when his clothes caught fire.

He had suffered serious burns and was admitted to the hospital.
