KARACHI, May 11: The initiative for resumption of meaningful negotiations between Pakistan and India augurs well for improvement of ties and bringing peace in the region and it would result in defeat of extremist elements on both sides.

These views were expressed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s member of National Assembly Kunwar Khalid Yunus while talking to Dawn on Sunday.

He said the move would pave the way for liberal forces to come forward and play their role to bring people of the region closer.

He said an improved environment in the region would be in the interest of the people and the country could get benefits which were being missed due to the strained relations.

He said India and Bangladesh had been working on a “river system” costing $15 billion to $20 billion and Pakistan could also join the project which could help in resolving the water problems for 100 years.

Both the countries would benefit from the improvement of ties, he said.
