KARACHI, May 10: The national trials to select a four-member Pakistan squad for the 2003 World Team Squash Championship will be conducted in Islamabad by the end of this month, a Pakistan squash Federation (PSF) spokesman said on Saturday.

According to the spokesman, all the top ranking players of the country will be invited to participate in the trials for the World Championship to be held in Vienna (Austria) from Oct 19 to 25.

Around 10 to twelve players are likely to take part in the trials after which the team will be announced by the national selection committee.

The players who will be selected in the national team will remain in Islamabad where they will attend a training camp in preparation for the World Championship. National coach Rahmat Khan will supervise the training camp.

The spokesman said that the details of the trials and the training camp will be discussed and decided at the PSF Executive Committee meeting to be held at the Air Headquarters in Chakala on May 19. Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat, president of the PSF, will chair the meeting.

Pakistan have won the World team Championship six times in the past. But their recent track record in the biennial event is far from satisfactory. Pakistan last won the event in 1993 in Karachi but since then have failed to regain the coveted title.—PPI
