GUJRANWALA, May 10: All Pakistan PWD Workers Union has resented that salaries of the low-paid employees have not been paid in accordance with their pay scales for the last one-and-a-half-year.
At a meeting held here on Saturday presided over by divisional president Malik Iftikhar Ahmad, the participants demanded that their salaries should also be raised in proportion to the price hike.
They said since the introduction of the local government system, salaries of low-paid employees, including beldars, had been decreased under various formulas.
They alleged that an account clerk had received Rs500 to Rs1,000 from each of them to get their pay scales adjusted, but the account office could not update their pay scales even after over a year.
For this state of affair, they held responsible department’s senior officers who were not taking interest to get resolved the pay scale matter of low-paid employees.
They threatened that they would go on a strike if their genuine demands were not met within next few days.
The meeting attended by PWD workers of tehsil and district headquarters demanded that the account clerk should be taken to task for receiving bribe from low-paid employees.
SEIZED: An anti-smuggling squad seized two luxury vehicles and caught two members of an inter-district gang of smugglers on Saturday in a raid at Upper Chenab river bridge in Wazirabad.
Acting on an information that two luxury vehicles were being smuggled from the tribal area through GT Road, the raiding team set up a picket at Chenab River bridge. As the accused reached there by luxury vehicles, the raiding team intercepted them. Later, the vehicles were taken into custody while both the accused were arrested. However, the anti-smuggling squad did not disclose the names of the arrested smugglers.
Luxury vehicles smuggled from tribal area are sold in various parts of the Punjab after preparing fake documents with the connivance of excise and taxation officials.
