SUKKUR, May 10: Two policemen were killed and two were injured in an encounter with bandits near a police picket at the Garang Wah here on Friday night.
Four policemen — ASI Maqbool Ahmad, head constable Kashif Ahmad, Mohammad Rahim and Sikandar — challenged the armed bandits while they were passing through the Garang Wah. The bandits opened fire on the police party, killing Maqbool Ahmad, a resident of Faisalabad, and Kashif Ahmad and injuring Mohammad Rahim and Sikandar.
The bodies were recovered for the Wah by policemen who reached there after the incident.
The Namaz-i-Janaza of the killed policemen was offered at the police lines.
The body of Maqbool Ahmad was sent to Faisalabad.
Nazim: District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has ordered to stop the construction work of a police station in New Pind.
The construction work of the police station was in progress for the last 20 days.
The police department claims that the ground where the police station is being constructed is the property of the department while area people say it is the property of the taluka council.
WHEAT BURNT: Around 2,000 mounds of wheat were gutted when a fire broke out in the Chongal village near Thull, Jacobabad district, on Saturday.
The fire brigade extinguished the fire after three hours.
LOOTED: Five persons barged into the house of Ghulam Mustafa Dayo in Drakhan, near Shikarpur, on Saturday and at gunpoint, looted cash, wrist watches and other valuables.
MEDICAL COLLEGE: The Sindh additional secretary for health, Mohammad Iqbal Daudpota, and District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah held a meeting here on Saturday to discuss arrangements for setting up a medical college in Sukkur.
The meeting, that was held at the DCO office, decided to start the medical college at the Health Technician School till a suitable plot for constructing the college building was allotted.
It also decided to shift the school to the District Health Development Centre, Rohri.
The meeting directed the EDO, revenue, to ensure provision of a plot for the college.
The district Nazim informed the meeting that Rs20 million had been earmarked for the development of the Sukkur Civil Hospital.
PASSENGERS: Two of the passengers of the Sargodha-bound Super Express, Sultan Mehmood, 60, a resident of Khushab and Mohammad Zubair, 30, hailing from Jhang, were on Friday found in an unconscious condition at the Rohri railway station.
They were later shifted to the taluka hospital in Rohri.
Both of the passengers are believed to have been rendered unconscious after ingesting some intoxicating food given by one or more of the fellow passengers.
