WASHINGTON, May 23: US President Barack Obama was heckled during a major foreign policy speech on Thursday when talking about closing Guantanamo Bay.

According to credible reports, the heckler was Code Pink founder Medea Benjamin. She shouted at least three times and interrupted Mr Obama’s speech.

The second time she interrupted, Mr Obama got irritated.

“Part of free speech is you being able to speak, but also me being able to speak. And you listening,” Mr Obama said to applause.

Mr Obama conceded, however, that she had a point.

“It’s worth being passionate about. Is this who we are?” he said.

The first time Ms Benjamin spoke up to interrupt, the crowd applauded her.

“Let me finish, ma’am,” Mr Obama said.

“It’s not Congress. It’s you, sir!” she shouted back. “... You are Commander-in-Chief!”

“Ma’am, thank you,” Mr Obama said, after a few failed attempts to get in a word. “You should let me finish my sentence. Today, I once again call on Congress to lift the restrictions on detainee transfers from Gitmo.”
