ISLAMABAD, May 22: US Ambassador Richard Olson said on Wednesday his government would have no objection if Pakistan entered into talks with Taliban.

“It is prerogative of the government of Pakistan to hold talks with Taliban,” he told reporters during a luncheon hosted by President Asif Ali Zardari in the honour of Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang at the presidency.

But, he said, the US government would observe terms and condition of any agreement between the two sides. “We have to see on which conditions such talks would take place.”

SHEIKH RASHID: Awami Muslim League President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, was also attended the lunch, said he wanted Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan to play the role of leader of opposition in the National Assembly.

Answering a question about the electoral victory of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), he said: “Whenever the party comes to power, it crosses limits and indulges in favouritism.”

Asked whether prime minister-in-waiting Nawaz Sharif would complete his five-year-term, he said: “Seventeen prime ministers have so far ruled the country but not a single one has completed the term,” he said.
