LAHORE, May 22: The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences on Wednesday discussed possibilities of launching e-courses for the capacity building of farmers.

A two-member UNIDO delegation, led by its international consultant Nellke Postema, visited the UVAS and held a meeting with UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha.

Prof Pasha briefed the delegation on the training programmes already being offered by the university with the collaboration of various organizations. He said the launch of e-courses would be an innovative initiative in the livestock sector and the UVAS would be very keen to begin such courses for the benefit of the farming community. He said the UVAS had highly skilled and qualified professionals for training of manpower in livestock, fisheries, poultry, wildlife and related sectors.

Lauding the UVAS diploma and need-based short courses, Ms Postema said that UNIDO desired collaboration with the UVAS for initiating joint e-courses in the areas of fisheries, animal and human nutrition and food safety.

Later, the delegation held separate meetings with the Information Technology experts of the UVAS and discussed the equipment, software and expertise required for the launch of e-courses.
