Vajpayee’s Sister passes away

NEW DELHI, May 9: The younger sister of Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee died here on Friday. She was 72.

Urmila Mishra was suffering from cancer and had been moved to New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences from Gwalior last month by Mr Vajpayee for treatment.

The Indian premier left New Delhi for Gwalior after his sister’s death to make arrangements for the last rites.

Ms Urmila was mother of Anup Mishra, BJP legislator in Madhya Pradesh.

MUSHARRAF, JAMALI CONDOLE DEATH: President Pervez Musharraf, in a message to Mr Vajpayee, expressed his condolences.

“Please accept my sincere condolences on the death of your younger sister and convey my feelings of sympathy to other members of the bereaved family,” the president said.

Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali also conveyed his “deepest condolences”. —AFP
