KARACHI, May 9: Controversy marred the inaugural national cadet boxing championship which began on Friday at Ali Mohammad Qambrani Boxing Stadium amid prot-

est from Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

The event, first of its kind in the country being organized by the Pakistan Amatuer Boxing Federation (PABF), saw KPT team manager, Ali Akbar Shah, protesting over Punjab which according to him fielded an over-age boxer.

Akbar, a former joint secretary of the PABF, lodged an official protest with chairman jury, Yaqoob Qambrani, saying Punjab boxer Mohammad Kashif was over-age as he had partcipated in the All-Pakistan Prof Anwar Chowdhry tournament hosted by Peshawar in April.

KPT’s Wali Mohammad Qambrani lost to Kashif on points in 54kg quarterfinal. A decision on the protest is expected on Saturday by the jury.

In the 46kg semifinal, Sindh’s Jibran Munna outpunched Mohammad Raza of Balochistan on points, while KPT’s Sanaullah qualified for the 48kg final after defeating Punjab’s Adeeb Asghar on points.

Mohammad Ali of Sindh stormed into 50kg final after beating Balochistan’s Abdul Wahab on points.

54kg: Mohammad Kashif (Punjab) bt Wali Mohammad Qambrani (KPT) on points

Semifinals:

46kg: Jibran Munna (Sindh) bt Mohammad Raza (Balochistan) on points

48kg: Sanaullah (KPT) bt Adeeb Asghar (Punjab) on points

50kg: Mohammad Ali (Sindh) bt Abdul Wahab (Balochistan) on points.
