LAHORE, May 16: Terming Zaka Ashraf’s election as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman transparent, president of the Islamabad Region Cricket Association Shakeel Shaikh on Thursday said the election was in accordance with provisions of the newly-promulgated PCB constitution, which was approved after consultations with the ICC.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, Shakeel said after the approval of the new PCB constitution Pakistan fulfilled the ICC requirements.

“Zaka’s election as PCB chairman on May 8 for four years was in line with the provisions of the PCB constitution,” said Shakeel, who is also member of the PCB Governing Board and participated in the democratic process in electing PCB chairman.

Shakeel reckoned some disgruntled and frustrated elements were raising unnecessary uproar over the implementation of the new PCB constitution.

“The election of Zaka by the PCB Governing Board as chairman is a historic step and it would go a long way in promoting cricket,” he stated.

It may be mentioned here that some stakeholders from Sialkot and Faisalabad regions have moved a legal petition against the implementation of the new constitution.
