KARACHI, May 9: Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad has appreciated the role of media in creating a congenial atmosphere between provinces and the federal government.

The governor was talking to a delegation of Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE), led by its President Mujibur Rehman Shami, which called on him at the Governor house here on Friday.

Dr. Ibad said newspapers help provide an opportunity of improvement by pinpointing short-comings of the government and guide how to redress the same.

Dr. Ibad, elaborating the priority of the Sindh government in different spheres of life, told the CPNE delegation that the government was fully aware of its job as well as civic problems of the people and was concentrating equally on development, with priorities given to health and education sectors and development of road network in the province.

He said around 49 per cent of the budget is consumed in salaries while rest of the amount was being spent on various projects.

Regarding delegation of power to the district governments, he said it had replaced over 55 year-old system and with the passage of time, people would know the responsibilities of the district governments.

Replying to a question regarding higher rate of interest the province is paying on federal loans, Dr. Ibad said that the province was enjoying excellent relations with the federal government and said he had approached the centre and submitted two proposals — either the interest rate be reduced or permission be given to retire its debt by acquiring loans from banks.—APP
