KHAIRPUR, May 8: The chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, has said that only the people of Khairpur have right to employment in the gas fields in Nara and the drive launched by the Shehri Ittehad and NGOs demanding jobs for locals was a just campaign.
Through a fax message sent to the zonal representative of the MQM, Manzoor Hussain Ansari, Altaf Hussain said that he had spoken to the prime minister and had convinced him that residents of Khairpur district should be appointed in jobs at the oil and gas fields of Nara.
He said the prime minister has assured him that the people of Khairpur would be appointed in the Nara fields within eight days.
SUICIDE: A woman, Hanifan, 20, gave poison to her two-year-old daughter, Shahul, and then took some herself in the Kanhar village, near Pir Jo Goth, Kingri Taluka, on Wednesday as a result of which both died.
However, the motive behind the suicide could not be ascertained.
EIGHT HUTS GUTTED: Eight huts were gutted when fire broke out in the Khameeso Chachar village on Wednesday.
GANG BUSTED: The Khairpur police have busted an inter-provincial car-hijacking gang on Thursday.
The DPO, Khairpur, while briefing newsmen, said that on a tip-off police arrested members of the car-snatching gang from the jurisdiction of the Tando Masti police station.
He said that the gang members mostly used to hijack cars and four-wheel drives from Karachi and after changing their number plates, smuggled them to Balochistan and other areas of Pakistan.
The arrested accused were identified as gang leader Abdul Hameed Soomro, Ghulam Sarwar alias Sakhi Baba, and Anwar Channa.
Police also recovered a vehicle of the PTCL (GA-8591), a car, a mobile telephone and some number plates from their possession.
The DPO said that four motorcycle snatchers had also been arrested. They were identified as Hazzar Khan, Zamir Hussain Kurio and Constable Badal Kharos.
