SIALKOT, May 6: A Pakistani villager was injured seriously in a landmine blast in a village near Narang Mandi, on Sialkot working boundary’s Shakargarh-Narowal sector here on Tuesday.
According to official sources, Arshad Mehmood (33) was passing through the fields when he hit the landmine. He was admitted to the Sialkot CMH in critical condition.
Meanwhile, following the improvement of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and India, a lull has prevailed on the 220km Sialkot working boundary. Things remained quiet for the seventh consecutive day on Tuesday.
SHOT DEAD: An industrialist was shot dead on offering resistance to two unidentified dacoits at a beverage agency on Pasrur Road in Daska city late on Monday night.
Sources said Khalid Jameel (45) was sitting in the company of his friend, agency owner Rashid Mehmood, when the dacoits forced their way into the shop, took the two of them hostage at gunpoint and started collecting valuables. As Mr Jameel tried to put up resistance, the dacoits opened fire, killing him on the spot.
The Daska city police have registered a case, with no arrest.
The shops on Nisbat Road and Pasrur Road in Daska city were closed to mourn the tragic incident. The deceased was the father of four daughters.
Meanwhile, criminals took away gold ornaments, cash, prize bonds, electrical appliances and other valuables worth Rs800,000 in several dacoity, robbery and theft incidents in Sialkot district, according to the FIRs lodged in the police stations concerned.
On Kutchery Road in Sialkot City, two unidentified armed motorcyclists snatched Rs100,000 from Chaudhry Mohammad Bashir.
In Model Town, Sialkot city, three unidentified armed dacoits stormed their way into the house of an exporter Mohammad Aslam, took all the family members including women and children hostage at gunpoint and fled away with gold ornaments, cash, wrist watches, and prize bonds worth Rs50,000.
On Wazirabad-Ugoki Road, unknown thieves broke into the house of a trader Hamid Ali and decamped with valuables worth Rs50,000.
In Moman Lalan (Ugoki), four armed persons snatched Rs4,000, mobile phones and a gold ring from local trader Abdul Masood.
