PESHAWAR, May 6: Protesting students of the Saidu Medical College, Swat, have wound up their protest camp but announced that they will boycott the classes till the acceptance of their demands.

Parents of the students said at a news conference here at the press club on Tuesday that they had convinced their wards to end the strike until May 15, the date given by NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani for the solution of the problems.

Members of the Parents’ Action Committee, including Mohammad Alam Yousafzai, Khursheed Ali Khan and Ghani Rehman, expressed concern over the attitude of the chief minister.

They said the students passed eight days and nights on the footpath while protesting for solution of the problems at the college.

They said the chief minister adopted a harsh attitude with the students during his meeting with them.

They said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government had failed in solving people’s problems and the attitude of its leaders was worse than their predecessors.

They said the chief minister’s assurance that contract teachers would be appointed at the college was not a solution to the problem because the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council would recognize it when the  infrastructure was developed in line with its requirements.
