RAWALPINDI, May 5: The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) president, Osman Khalid Waheed, has asked the national carrier to improve its services in freight sector.

In a statement following a meeting with a delegation of cargo clearing agents, he criticized the levy of trucking charges of Rs16 per kilogramme on export to destinations where PIA does not have direct flights. He termed such charges as violation of International Air Travellers Association rules.

He said being the national flag carrier, PIA should assist, not hamper the efforts of exporters. This levy also makes the exports of fruits and vegetables uncompetitive, he added. Mr Waheed maintained that in case of mangoes, PIA has also increased freight charges by Rs10 per kilogramme even before the mango season had started.—Our Reporter
