RAWALPINDI, May 5: The government has decided to get feedback from the local bodies’ elected representatives and officials about the flaws in the local governance system, the director-general, Local Government Punjab, Colonel Mohammad Shahbaz (retired), said.

Speaking at a meeting in the district coordination officer’s secretariat, he said the local government department would then bring about changes in the system to rectify the faults pointed out during the exercise.

He said the local government department would train elected office-bearers of the local bodies and its officials with the help of $300 million Asian Development Bank assistance.

He said training of elected representatives and officials was important for the success of the local governance system.

The director-general said the executive district officer (finance and planning) of the respective district governments and all Tehsil municipal officers in the province would be made focal persons for this training.

In the first phase, the focal persons would be trained, who would then train elected representatives.

Each focal person will be provided up to Rs15,000 for training persons. The focal person will have to hold a minimum of 10 training sessions.
