LAHORE, May 4: Imran Khalid created history for Pakistan by winning seven gold and one silver medal in the 15th Asian Senior and Junior powerlifting championship which concluded at Almaty, Kazakhstan on Sunday.

Imran competed in 100 kg class in junior and lifted a total weight of 880 kgs more than any other senior and was awarded two gold medals for the total weight (one each for junior and senior). The total weight was also a new record in junior section.

Imran lifted 340.5 kgs in squat to create new records both in junior and senior.

In bench press, he lifted a weight of 220.5 kg to earn a gold in the junior and silver in the senior.

In dead lift, Imran lifted 323 to not only earn a gold both in the junior and senior but also set new records.

In all, four Pakistani contestants participated in the competition and claimed 12 gold, eight silver and four bronze medals to show an excellent performance.

Others are Adeel Rana who earned four gold, two bronze, Qamar one gold three silver two bronze and Aamir Hussain four silver.

The team is returning to Lahore on Wednesday.
