ISLAMABAD, May 4: The Capital Development Authority has said the demand by a local MNA for payment of compensation on market rate to those whose land had been acquired in Islamabad in the ‘80s has already been met.

“Not only these people have received compensation for their land and built-up property at the time of acquisition of the land in the 1980s, but they have also got other rehabilitation benefits worth millions of rupees,” he added.

It is, therefore, not logical to claim compensation on market rate in 2003 for the land acquired over twenty years ago and for which the victims had already been compensated.

He said in spite of the settlement of claims and rehabilitation benefits long time ago, these people have been occupying the CDA land for the last about 15 years without paying any rent.

“An amount of Rs286.9 million was disbursed among the affectees as compensation for their land and the built-up property. Only two or three hundred thousand rupees are pending as payment for ‘shamalat’ land,” the spokesman said.

In addition to the cash compensation, the people had been allotted 1,136 residential plots, five agro farms as well as 122 eligibility certificates for getting agricultural land in the colony districts, the spokesman added.

A senior official of the CDA also said that in future payment for the acquired land would be made only after taking physical possession of the land and no one would be allowed to remain in the possession of the acquired land.
