RAWALPINDI, May 4: Power supply to the Cantonment Hospital and tubewells in the jurisdiction of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board has been restored.

About four days back, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company snapped electricity supply to the Cantonment General Hospital, about eight tubewells, some water headworks and underground and overhead tanks in areas like Allama Iqbal Colony, Tench Bata, Tipu Road and Allabad, leaving the water pumping installations inoperational.

The power supply was restored on intervention by Corps Commander Lt-Gen Arif Hassan.

The snapping of power supply triggered acute water shortage in the localities sparking protests from the residents the corps commander had to intervene.

After the restoration of the electric supply, the RCB officials operated the tubewells in order to start water supply to the residents. Apart from the water installations, the electricity of the Cantonment Hospital was also restored.

Power supply to street lights and some official residences still remains suspended.

There was a total black-out for the fourth day running on the main roads and shopping centres in Saddar including Bank Road, Kashmir Road, Haider Road, Adamjee Road, Maulvi Mohammad Hussain Road and the part of main Murree Road which falls within the cantonment limits.

It has been learnt that the power supply will remain suspended till the issue of due payment is resolved. A meeting in this connection will be held next week.
