KARACHI, May 4: A serious financial crisis has hit the Saddar Town administration which may upset its development works if urgent remedial measures are not taken.

In this regard, the town administration drew the attention of Sindh Local Government Minister and urged him to use his influence for the release of stuck up funds from city district government.

It said millions of rupees were payable by the city government on account of GST, conservancy charges, property and betterment tax to the town administration.

In an appeal to the Local Government, the Nazim of the Town, Farooq Memon Faria, said the town was facing serious financial hardships due to non-availability of funds from the city government and all the development projects were at a stand-still.

He said that the Saddar town was not able to pay salaries to its employees, clear bills of contractors because of the cold shoulder attitude of the city government.

He urged the minister to come to the rescue of the town and save it from a total collapse. He also urged the City Nazim and the DCO to pay attention to this serious problem and play their role in the solution of this issue.

According to an official, fund shortage has been the main cause of delay in the execution of development works. The Town earns Rs11 million every month whereas the monthly bill of salaries is to the tune of Rs 12 million, it is learnt.

The town gets a sum of Rs2 million under the head of petrol while the expenditure under this head is Rs3 million every month.
