UMERKOT: A minor girl was killed and five women received burn injuries, as a fire broke out in Rahal village Rahal near Jalo-jo-Chonro area of district Umerkot  reducing 10 houses into ashes here on Tuesday.

A fire broke out in village Rahal near Jalo-jo-Chonro area of Umerkot district when a spark flew from the stove during cooking.

A number of straw-made and thatched houses caught fire withing minutes reducing 10 houses in the village to ashes.

According to the villagers, 20 goats and sheep were charred to death and an eight-year-old  girl also sucumbed to her burn injuries.

Two other women also received burn injuries suffering 50 per cent damages to their bodies and were shifted to taluka hospital Umerkot.

Villagers told Dawn.com that Rahal village is 60 kilometers far from Umerkot, therefore after information fire-brigade vehicles had not arrived until the passage of two hours.

Extinguishing the fire was made difficult due to strong wind conditions.

The affected families said that they were left sitting under the open sky and no government official had contacted them as yet.
