LANDI KOTAL, March 26: A woman teacher was shot dead in Jamrud subdivision of Khyber Agency on Tuesday, officials said.

Two assailants on a motorbike opened fire at Shehnaz Nazli at close range when she was about to enter a community girls school in Shah Kas area at around 9am.

Ms Nazli suffered injuries and was taken to Hayatabad Medical Complex where she died.

The teacher used to travel from her Peshawar residence to Jamrud daily.

Jamrud Political Tehsildar Asmatullah Wazir told Dawn that 28 tribesmen had been taken into custody during a search operation conducted after the incident.

Local sources, however, said the arrested men were mostly innocent and the killers had escaped after the attack.
