LAHORE, March 24: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) constituted committees at the central and provincial levels on Sunday to decide within four days about seat adjustment in various constituencies for the coming elections.

The decision came after a JI delegation led by Syed Munawar Hasan met PTI chief Imran Khan at his residence in Zaman Park.

According to sources, the PTI’s leaders have decided to support the JI’s Liaquat Baloch, Hafiz Suleman Butt and Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar in two constituencies of the National Assembly in Lahore and one in Bahawalpur.

“We have discussed issues relating to seat adjustment for the general elections and we have formed committees in order to take a final decision in this regard within the next three to four days,” the PTI chief told reporters after the meeting.

He said his party considered the JI chief to be a credible person who would help it in founding a ‘new Pakistan’ that would be peaceful and prosperous and corruption-free.

He said the PTI would not enter into any alliance or seat adjustment with those who had plundered the national wealth over the past five years.

The JI chief termed the meeting a continuity of JI-PTI discussions held intermittently for a long time. “Since Imran Khan has given a new vision to the nation, we have formed committees to reach a final decision regarding seat adjustment in various constituencies to end corruption and maintain peace in the country,” he said.

Replying to questions, both the leaders raised questions about the record of the newly-designated caretaker premier.

“Although the new caretaker prime minister appointed by the Election Commission has a zigzag track record, we hope he performs his duties honestly,” the JI chief said.

He said the JI’s seat adjustment plan with the PML-N would depend on its conduct in the future.

Earlier, a PTI leader said there was consensus among senior party leaders to accommodate the JI in three NA constituencies in Punjab.

“Support can be extended in other constituencies keeping in view the number of votes obtained by the JI’s candidates,” the leader from south Punjab told Dawn.
