KARACHI: A fire that broke out in a vacant military barrack in Karachi near Luck Star on Shahrae Faisal during the early hours of Sunday was brought under control, DawnNews reported.

The barracks were unoccupied when they caught fire and no injuries were reported, according to a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) which further said that the fire appeared to have a result of a short circuit but the cause would be confirmed.

A fire erupted in the unoccupied barracks early on Sunday which shortly engulfed the entire building. Rescue and fire teams rushed to the spot upon receiving information.

Emergency teams of Pakistan Navy (PN) and Defense Housing Authority (DHA) had also reached the site.

The third-degree-fire was brought under control after three hours of efforts.

An emergency was declared at Karachi's Jinnah Hospital, fortunately no injuries were reported.

Vehicular traffic on Shahrae Faisal, one of the main arteries of the city, was suspended for a few hours as a result of the fire.
