Rickshaw menace in Peshawar

I WOULD like to draw the attention of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Peshawar traffic police towards the huge number of rickshaws on roads. They are causing a great trouble for motorists and pedestrians.

Most of the drivers of these rickshaws even do not have proper legal documents of the vehicle and driving licences, yet they drive like monarchs of the roads.

They seem accustomed to violating traffic rules. It is also evident that the traffic mess is mostly caused by the three-wheelers. If the number of these rickshaws is curtailed, 70 per cent of traffic jams will disappear.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should introduce a policy where three-wheelers are properly registered before being allowed on roads.

Besides, non-registered rickshaws should be confiscated so that road and civic sense may be instilled into the people.

Peshawar has not been taken seriously by KPK govenment. Its annoying when I see that its in the same place when I left it 15 years ago. Right now I am in ISB.

It is because of extreme poverty why so many youths are resorting to Rickshaw profession. Better education and employment can fix part of this problem. Better trade relationship with neighboring countries could also help increase business in the area. Pakhtunkhwa was once land of pride people, said to see it is struggling like this.

Ricky richshaws are good for the people and the drivers. The former keep the latter employed. Get the motorists and trucks out of the way and let the ricky richshaws phut phut all the way.

Since we may take a car to move around, it will be a little harsh, banning the three wheelers. The British have left a long stretch of railway line, which runs through the entire city of Peshawar. If a regular railway track commuter service is run the whole day, with new mini stations/stops on the route, a quarter of a percentage of traffic will be reduced from the city's roads. The honourable railway minister is also from the same city.
