ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf met President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday and discussed with him political situation and matters relating to general elections.

It is learnt that President Zardari has formed four committees to shortlist candidates for the PPP ticket. The committees are reported to be headed by PM Ashraf, former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, federal minister Amin Fahim and MNA Faryal Talpur.

The prime minister apprised the president of deliberations of Wednesday’s meeting of the Council of Common Interests, a press release quoted the president’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar as saying.

The prime minister also briefed the president on his Tuesday evening’s meeting with ministers and PPP leaders.
