KARACHI, Jan 7: Maulana Asghar Ilyas and his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Zainab were laid to rest in the C-1 Area graveyard of Liaquatabad following their funeral in Hasan Colony, Liaquatabad, on Monday.

Asghar and his little daughter were killed and his elder daughter, Dua, was wounded when assailants targeted them at the Tahir Villa intersection near Ayesha Manzil in the early hours of Monday.

The family were travelling in their car which hit an electric pole as a result of the attack.

The funeral prayers for the father and daughter were offered at Nayab Masjid near Dakkhana in Liaquatabad.

The funeral prayers were led by Maulana Ameerul Rehman. The prayers were attended by a leader of the Ahle Sunaat Wal Jamaat, Maulana Rab Nawaz Hanafi, and Dr Muhammad Fayyaz, according to a statement issued by an ASWJ spokesman.

Earlier, the ASWJ spokesman had condemned the killings.
