ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday suspended a notice issued by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) summoning SC Registrar Dr Faqir Hussain, DawnNews reported.

A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal, moreover suspended the PAC's actions with respect to the registrar.

The bench issued the directives during the hearing of petitions challenging the PAC's summons for Dr Hussain.

During today’s hearing, counsel for the Karachi Bar Association, Advocate Munir A Malik, in his arguments said that the judiciary and the executive had been kept detached in order to enable the judiciary's independence as well as to ensure the efficient dispensation of justice.

Malik added that the PAC did not have the mandate to examine the court's administrative expenditures.

He said the Supreme Court's expenses and the judges' salaries were paid from a federal consolidated fund which the PAC had no authority to scrutinise.
