PESHAWAR, Dec 14: Students from Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency on Friday staged a demonstration on Sher Shah Suri Road against the military operation in their area and demanded early rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons.

The demonstration attended by dozens of students from different educational institutions was led by Khyber Students’ Union president Muslim Khan Afridi and general secretary Naik Mohammad.

Holding placards and banners, the demonstrators demanded the early end to the prolonged military operation, the opening of educational institutions in Bara, award of scholarships to their students, and rehabilitation of IDPs.

The speakers said hundreds of the innocent people, including elders, women and children, had been killed during the operation but the people had no other options but to shift their families to other provinces.

They said the launch of military operation was a conspiracy against tribal people to keep them away from educational institutions and therefore, the government should end the offensive, open healthcare centres and educational institutions.

The speakers shouted slogans against Bara MNA Hameedullah Jan Afridi accusing him of doing nothing for the welfare of the people of his constituency.
