MUZAFFARABAD Nov 6: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed on Tuesday invited senior Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani to visit AJK and assured him that AJK government and people would never disappoint their struggling brethren in Indian-held Kashmir.

“As a (common) Kashmiri and an elected leader of this side of Kashmir, I assure you that we will never leave you alone or disappoint you. We are with you until our common goal is achieved,” he told Mr Geelani on phone from the PM House here.

The telephonic conversation between the two leaders was in the wake of Mr Geelani’s address to Muzaffarabad-based media in which he had said the ongoing activities in Pakistan and AJK regarding Kashmir were tantamount to rubbing salt in the wounds of Kashmiris.

However, the Kashmiri leader avoided making bitter remarks during his conversation with the AJK premier.

Inviting Mr Geelani to visit AJK, Mr Majeed told him that he had allocated funds for the construction of two monuments of Kashmiri martyrs, which would begin in next three months.

“We have planned to build one monument of the martyrs of Kashmir along the Muzaffarabad-Srinagar Road and another in Sialkot (Punjab),” he said.

Earlier this year, Mr Geelani had suggested Mr Majeed via a letter to build a monument of the Kashmiri martyrs in Muzaffarabad.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr Geelani said the governments in Muzaffarabad and Islamabad should leave no stone unturned to highlight the atrocities done in Indian-held Kashmir.

Speaking to the media by telephone, Mr Geelani recalled the mass slaughter of Muslims in Jammu in 1947 and said the situation in Indian-held Kashmir had not changed since the past six decades.

“Our youths are still being tortured to death in interrogations centres,” he said, adding that Pakistan should have adopted a policy for Kashmir that could compel India to give up its military occupation.

“The state of Jammu and Kashmir will remain disputed until its future is decided in accordance with the UN resolutions,” he said.
