KARACHI, Oct 22: A sessions court sentenced on Monday a man to seven years in prison in a robbery case.

Mohammad Ijaz was found guilty of robbing complainant Nasrullah with an attempt to cause a grievous injury to his driver in Sept 2009 within the remit of the Jamshed Quarter police station.

Additional District and Sessions judge (east) Chaudhry Waseem Iqbal also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on him and in case of non-payment he would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the vehicle of the complainant was intercepted by armed men shortly after he along with his driver left a bank after withdrawing money. The accused deprived them of cash and caused injuries to the driver since he tired to offer resistance. However, after hearing gunshots the people present around managed to capture Ijaz and handed him over to police while his accomplice escaped.

A case (FIR 475/09) was registered under Sections 397 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
