Website: Storybird

Published October 20, 2012

Storytelling and story writing is always very fascinating. And it becomes even more interesting if the story is full of visuals because a picture is worth a thousand words. Therefore, today we are going to visit a website where you can unleash the author inside you. It’s storybird.com.

To get started all you have to do is sign up and then sign in to create your account from the upper right corner. Your dashboard opens where you can see the status of your stories but as you are new there will be nothing once you start writing stories and publishing them you will see the tabs ‘your published stories’, ‘unpublished stories’ and ‘reading list’. Published stories are put in Public library where other members of the site give feedback, notified to you with a bubble that appears on the story title in your dashboard.

Public library is a place where you can read or have ideas by visiting the author of the story, its illustrator, the age range and thumbnails on the right panel giving you a quick preview about what is going on inside the story with comments given below.

The stories are very short and colourful. So even small kids learning to read and write will find it very easy to go through them.

Creating story is fun and easy. From the menu, click create, you can either choose from the artists or explore the themes. So if you choose artist, it will open all the art work of that particular artist in front of you, select whatever interest you, then click ‘Start a storybird’ — the platform where the stories are created; the art work or images that you chose earlier would be displayed in the right and left panel.

Just drag and drop them and if you don’t like existing image or art replace it with something else and write in the box given for adding text; you can also add and remove pages, invite someone for assistance, publish the story right away or save it for some other time. So, isn’t it an easy way to bring out the artist as well as an author from inside you?

Storybird.com is like a game board where you take turns and see how others are playing it. You can share it with your family and friends as it is a great way to show your presentation that you have been creating and having fun. — Aamir Raz Soomro
