55pc fail in HSSC part-1 exam
RAWALPINDI, Oct 1: Less than half of the students cleared the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Part-I examination held under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Rawalpindi.
About 49,313 students had appeared in the exam but only 22,629 could get through, showing pass percentage of just 45.
However, BISE officials claimed that majority of the students deliberately skipped some of the papers in the hope to perform better in the subjects in the second-year exam.
They said the first-year marks were not the final results of intermediate exam as there was no practical in Part-1. Besides, it has also no supplementary examination.
However, the BISE admitted that 45 per cent of the students had secured less than 33 marks.
“The overall performance is revealed in Part-II examination and our board has been clinching top positions in the province. We will continue the tradition in the second-year exam,” said Arsalan Cheema, the BISE spokesman, said. — Our Reporter
IHC summons CDA boss
ISLAMABAD, Oct 1: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday summoned CDA chairman on the petition filed against encroachment on natural streams in sector E-11.
IHC Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi resumed hearing of the petition of Dr Aslam Khaki.
Petitioner, Dr Khaki adopted before the court that private housing societies of sector E-11 in violation of their layout plan encroached upon nullahs of the sector, which not only damaged the scenic beauty of the sector but also disturbed the smooth flow of water through ravines.
He alleged that the private housing societies illegally shrank the size of these ravines and constructed multi-storey buildings and commercial plazas over them. CDA counsel, however, contended that it had issued warnings and sought the explanation from the private housing societies for encroaching upon the nullahs. But CDA cannot force them to remove these encroachments, he added. The court, while observing the CDA reply unsatisfactory, summoned its chief and member planning and adjourned the hearing. — A Reporter
