Three shot dead in Parachinar

PARACHINAR, Sept 15: Three people, including two Afghan nationals, were killed when unknown assailants opened fire on them near Gedo checkpost along the Afghan border here on Saturday.

Residents said that two Afghan nationals whose names could not be confirmed as yet and a local resident were passing by the checkpost in Gedo village in Kurram Agency when unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on them.

All the three were killed on the spot. —Correspondent

Three killed in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Sept 15: Three people, including a girl, were killed in different incidents here on Saturday.

An official of the Badbher police station while quoting the statement of a complainant, Waris Khan, said his son, Nawaz Khan, was called out of his house by some people, who took him along.

He told police they came to know on Saturday morning that he had been shot dead and his body was lying in agriculture fields. He alleged Habib-ur-Rehman and his brother Sher were involved in the murder of Nawaz Khan.

Police said a young girl was found dead in mysterious condition at her residence in the same locality.

A youth, Mussawir Khan, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a pistol at Garhi Qamar Din. An official of the Bala Mani police said Rafiq, brother of the deceased, said the family had no enmity with his brother. —Bureau Report

PML-N popularity ‘intact’

LAKKI MARWAT, Sept 15: PML-N district president Shafiullah Khan Begukhel has said the separation of Kabir group from PML-N would not affect popularity of the party in the district.

Talking to this scribe on Saturday, he said political figures affiliated with the group had joined PML-N in the past to secure their vested interests.

“These people (belonging to Kabir group) believe in the politics of safeguarding their business interests, that is why they have started changing political affiliations,” he maintained.

“In 2008 general elections the candidates of Kabir group were not awarded PML-N tickets as party leaders were aware of the fact that these people are turncoats and lack sincerity,” he maintained.

“The PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has great respect for party activists besides he has issued instructions to all concerned for resolving their problems,” he maintained.

He claimed the party will keep its upper hand in next general elections. —Correspondent

Foreigner deprived of cash

SWABI, Sept 15: Unidentified pickpockets deprived a foreign member of Tablighee Jamaat of Rs150,000 in Razaar tehsil on Saturday.

It was learnt that a group of preachers of Tablighee Jamaat reached Ismaila village. One of the members from Morocco, who wanted to exchange currency, went to Shawa adda.

After exchanging the money, he was on way back to Ismaila in a local transport vehicle when the pickpockets deprived him of Rs150,000.

The concerned Kalu Khan police were tightlipped about the incident.

In a related incident, a five-year schoolboy was kidnapped by unidentified abductors while on way home from a private school.

The incident happened under the nose of Topi city police station.

The child, Rehmanullah, belongs to Ghulamkhel Mohallah. Sources said the kidnappers drove a green colour car.

Similarly, a salesman of a mobile phone company was looted at gunpoint in broad daylight near Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate. —Correspondent

DPC plans anti-movie rally

PESHAWAR, Sept 15: Defa-i-Pakistan Council, a conglomerate of 40 religious and extremist outfits, will hold long march in Peshawar on October 1 against anti-Islam movie and impending military operation in North Waziristan Agency.

The council’s media coordinator Israrullah advocate said in a statement on Saturday provincial organisers of the council would meet in Peshawar on Monday to chalk out plan for the protest rally.

He said hundreds of thousands of workers of various political parties and groups would attend the rally.

He said the rally was being held to put pressure on the government to halt supply for Nato forces in Afghanistan.

He said that operation in North Waziristan would lead the country towards anarchy. —Bureau Report

Sit-in outside US consulate

PESHAWAR, Sept 15: Shabab-i-Milli, the youth wing of Jamaat-i-Islami, will hold a rally and observe sit-in outside US consulate in Peshawar on September 18 to condemn the Americans for preparing sacrilegious video insulting the holy prophet.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Friday, Shabab-i-Milli Peshawar president Shehzad Ahmed said thousands of youth would gather outside the US consulate (at 2pm on Tuesday) to show their concern over the steps repeatedly taken by the US nationals for hurting sentiments of the Muslims.

“Peaceful protest demonstration is our legal right and in case the police tried to stop our workers it will be tantamount to support to the non-Muslims, and if any untoward incident happened the entire responsibility will rest with the government,” he warned.

He said the provincial leaders of Jamaat-i-Islami will also speak on the occasion, while members of the minority communities would participate in large numbers. —Bureau Report

‘Pro-US’ policies condemned

BATKHELA, Sept 15: Thousands of people will participate in ‘Islami Inqelab’ rally of Jamaat-i-Islami scheduled to be held in Timergara on September 23 against government’s pro-American policies and the US anti-Islam rhetoric.

This was stated by Shabab-i-Milli tehsil Adenzai president Attaullah Khan advocate, while speaking at a press conference at Batkhela Press Club on Saturday. He was also flanked by Shabab-i-Milli general secretary Shah Faisal, vice-president Zainullah Khan and deputy general secretary Jamshid Khan.

Mr Attaullah said to make the rally a success a motorcycle rally will be held on September 21 from Kityari to Chakdara.

He said a meeting of party’s union council presidents was held the other day in which they were given the task to mobilise maximum number of party workers and youth to participate in the rally.

He said the rally would press the government to change the foreign policy and rearrange it reflecting wishes of people. —Correspondent
