Swabi, Sept 8: The district health authorities have planned supplementary immunisation campaigns after emergence of a polio case in Razar tehsil a few days ago, officials said.

They said that Adil Khan, son of Gohar Khan and a resident of village Palrrah Kallay, Kalu Khan union council, was a new case tested positive for polio at National Institute of Health, Islamabad.

The officials said that following detection of the case they had planned to run three special anti-polio campaigns between Sept 17 and October 3.

“The child, who had got regular dose of vaccine, developed the crippling disease, which is worrying for the health authorities and people,” said Dr Riaz, EPI’s district coordinator. He said that the teams from the district had covered Kalu Khan region, especially the locality of Adil and the surrounding houses. He said that preventing the spread of the deadly virus in the area was their target.

He said that health staff, teachers, union council secretaries and police would be involved to reach each nook and corner of the district and seek people’s cooperation to reduce the refusal cases. Meanwhile, a meeting held in the office of the DCO discussed coverage of refusal cases in the district. The meeting was informed that in March total refusal cases were 1,578, which had been reduced to 632 till July. —Correspondent
