KARACHI, Sept 7: At least five people were found shot dead in different parts of the city on Friday, police said.

The bodies of two young men were found on the bank of the Lyari River in Old Golimar in the morning, said an official at the Pak Colony police station.

He added that the victims, in their mid-30s, were trussed up and blindfolded before being shot dead in the head.

The bodies also bore torture marks, the official said, adding that it seemed that the victims had been killed four to five days ago.

He said the police shifted the bodies to the Edhi morgue for want of identification after medico-legal formalities at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. A resident of Orangi Town was found shot dead near Sindh Hotel under a bridge linking Liaquatabad to Gulshan-i-Iqbal, police said.

They added that the Liauqatabad and PIB Colony police stations had some dispute over the jurisdiction of the area where the body had been spotted.

The body was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

A CNIC copy found from the victim identified him as Mohammad Shabbir, a resident of Nazimabad, Jalalabad, but it later emerged that he did not live at the address mentioned in the identity card, the police said.

The body was then sent to the Edhi morgue for want of identification, the officials said.

A victim’s nephew, Akhlaq Ahmed, later reached the morgue and identified the victim as his uncle. The police quoted him as saying that the victim lived in Orangi Town No 4. The deceased was employed at a marble factory. He had left for work on Thursday but didn’t return, the victim’s nephew was quoted as saying.

Earlier in the morning, the body of a young man along with a new motorcycle was found in Ittehad Town, Baldia, police said.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Anwer, 40, a resident of Toori Bangash Colony, Orangi Town, said an official at the Mochko police station.

The police found eight spent bullet casings at the crime scene and shifted the body to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities, he said.

The victim looked like an Afghan national, he said, suspecting some personal enmity as a motive for the killing.

A man was shot dead in Karimabad market on Friday night.

Abdul Rehman, 50, was standing at a fish shop where two suspects on a motorcycle pulled up and one of them pumped a bullet into his head, said an official at the Azizabad police station.

The suspects fled in the presence of a large number of onlookers in the market, the official said.

The body was later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The police official said that victim was a resident of North Nazimabad, Block S, and used to work at a steel shop on M.A. Jinnah Road.

He added that the victim belonged to the Deoband sect, but a spokesman for the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat said that he was not their worker.

The police were not certain about the motive for the killing. “The murder could be a result of personal enmity or part of the ongoing sectarian attacks,” said an officer of the Azizabad police station.
