Man killed in Kohat

KOHAT, Sept 5: A man was killed and a 17-year-old girl was abducted here on Wednesday following a marriage dispute between two vagabond families of Punjab.

Yousaf Khan told Gumbat police that Sikandar, Riaz, Ayub and some other men raided their tent and started beating his family members. His brother, who received serious injuries, later died, he added.

The attacking men belonging to Sufaid Qabristan area of Mianwali also abducted his daughter, Chanda Bibi, for forcibly marrying her to a man, Yousaf said and added that they came and went back to Mianwali after committing the crime.

In another incident, Sohail reported to cantonment police that his brother, Mustafa, had been shot dead near the shrine of Mangal Baba by unidentified men. —Correspondent

Cheques distributed

ABBOTTABAD Sept 5: An amount of Rs120 million was distributed among the affected people of Pathrand Hydro Power Project by Commissioner Hazara Khalid Khan Umerzai here on Wednesday.

While speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said that with the distribution of cheques among the victims, first phase of 147MW power project was nearing completion .Giving details of the project, he said that 188 kanal land has been acquired for the power project which would be completed in four years at a cost of Rs36 billion.

A total of 37 victims were given cheques while 63 others would be get the same shortly. The Wednesday’s function was also attended by the officials of the Korean government, additional secretary home, DCO Abbottabad and Torghar.

Khalid Khan said that KP government had also finalised work on three small power projects in Balakot while a major project of 600MW power project will be started in Kohistan district. —Correspondent

Slow pace of work

TIMERGARA, Sept 5: Expressing anger and grave concerns on slow pace of work on development projects in Lower Dir, central information secretary of Awami National Party and Senator Zahid Khan has directed the authorities concerned to complete all the projects in stipulated time.

He was addressing a public gathering at Hajiabad the other day. The ANP senator said that during his visit to Lower Dir he witnessed that work on Chakdara Bridge, Balambat Koto Road, Odigram Bridge, Khall Bridge and other projects had not been as per scheduled time.

He said that billion of rupees had been approved for these projects but despite lapse of two years people had not been able to benefit from them. He warned to take strict actions against the officials concerned if the work was not expedited. —Correspondent

Fresh poverty survey sought

CHITRAL, Sept 5: The members of the steering committee of all the political parties of Chitral have demanded of the prime minister and chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to take notice of the large scale bungling in the programme in which affluent and non-deserving people were deriving the stipend while the poor and the indigent were denied the same in the district.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mahmud Isa (PML-N), Maulana Abdul Shakur (JUI), Hamidur Rahman (PPP-S), Sher Hussain (PPP), Sher Baig (ANP), Siddique Ahmed (PML-Q) and others said that due to a faulty survey last year poor women were deprived of the financial assistance.

They said that a fresh poverty survey across the district was the only solution to the issue in which former councillors and union nazims and elite should be included to make it transparent. —Correspondent

Tribal areas’ uplift

PESHAWAR, Sept 5: The Tribal Chamber of Commerce and Industry and University of Peshawar Fata research cell would work jointly for the uplift of underprivileged areas in the tribal areas.

According to a statement issued here on Wednesday, focus would be on the exploration, development and utilisation of mineral and natural resources in Fata. This was decided at a meeting between a 12-member delegation led by Zubair Ali, vice-president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and UoP Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz at the University of Peshawar.

The FPCCI vice-president also offered to gave full-time employment to fresh graduates of business management and commerce of the university in their industries. He also announced full-time internships for talented students in the research and development unit of the TCCI. —Bureau Report

Vaccination of animals

BUNER, Sept 5: The in charge of mobile unit of livestock and dairy development Dr Ahmed Khan arranged a field camp at Kalil Kandow area to vaccinate cattle heads and educate owners about importance of vaccinating the animals and proper food supplement for increasing milk and beef productivity.

The cattle owners from hill stations participated in large numbers. They had also brought their cattle heads for vaccination and treatment. Dr Ahmed Khan informed them about the importance of vaccination against various animal diseases.

He imparted training to them about taking care of their animals to keep them healthy and strong. He urged the cattle owners to maintain contact with registered doctors in case of any problem so as to protect the animals from deadly diseases. —Correspondent
