RAWALPINDI, Aug 4: The health department will start its fumigation campaign from Sunday (today) to avert the threat of an outbreak of malaria and dengue virus along the banks of Lai Nullah.

Talking to Dawn on Saturday, District Health Officer (Urban Areas) Dr Ansar Ishaq said the department was actively carrying out the fumigation campaign, covering low-lying areas in the city after the rain in the city.

He said that the department cancelled the weekly holiday of officials and called 250 volunteers to help the health officials to conduct indoor spray and in the area where rain water had accumulated.

He said that the campaign would start from sensitive areas including union council 1 to 10 (Dhoke Ratta, Dhoke Mangtal, Dhoke Hassu, Dhoke Dalal, Khyaban-e-Sir Syed etc).

He said that the health department had constituted special teams equipped with necessary insecticides and other equipment to fog streets and houses in rain affected areas. — A Reporter
