ISLAMABAD, July 25: Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Wednesday directed the military authorities to produce a detained junior commissioned officer (JCO) in the court on Thursday, while Islamabad High Court (IHC) gave another 15 days to the Inspector General (IG) Punjab police for the recovery of missing activist of banned outfit Hizbut Tehrir (HuT).

LHC Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi, while hearing a petition seeking release of JCO Muhammad Ilyas, directed the military authorities to produce the detained armyman along with the relevant record as his counsel Col (retired) Inamur Rahim told the court that the JCO was facing alleged illegal detention since his arrest on April 2011, from Quetta.

According to Col (retired) Rahim, JCO Ilyas had been detained on the charges of having assets beyond his known source of income.

He claimed that detained JCO purchased the property from the money transferred to him by his nephew who was working in the Middle East.

He alleged that his client had been missing for some time after his arrest. He was never charge sheeted nor any of the responsible officers met him during his detention.

Justice Lodhi earlier ordered for the production of JCO Ilyas on Wednesday but the military authorities expressed inability due to insufficient security management for the transportation of the detained soldier.

Meanwhile, IHC Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui resumed hearing of a petition seeking recovery of missing HuT spokesman Naveed Butt.

The court earlier had summoned the IG Punjab with the direction for the recovery of missing activist by July 25, while hearing the petition of advocate Sadia Rahat, the spouse of Naveed Butt.

IG Punjab Habibur Rehman and advocate general Punjab Ashtar Ausaf appeared in the said case and told the court about their efforts for the recovery of missing man. They requested the court to extend the deadline for the recovery of missing activist.

According to the petition Mr Butt went missing since May 5. The petitioner’s counsel, Umer Hayat Sandhu, had contended that Butt was detained by the officials of spy agencies. He said his client was on his way to pick up his children from school, when intelligence agencies’ officials kidnapped him near Liaquatabad.

He alleged Butt had received threatening calls from unknown callers before he went missing.
