LAHORE, July 22: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the police on Sunday to make foolproof security arrangements at mosques and imambarghas during Ramazan.

He also ordered for strict security arrangements at Ramazan bazaars so that citizens could do shopping without any sense of fear.

Shahbaz Sharif expressed these views while presiding over a meeting to review the law and order situation in the province.

He also directed to intensify security arrangements in markets and bazaars to keep a check on incidents of crime.

The chief minister said terrorism and lawlessness had caused irreparable loss to the national economy and the whole nation would have to unite and play its role in rooting out terrorism and extremism.

He said modern training courses were being conducted for police officers with the cooperation of the Turkish police for the capacity-building of Punjab police.The chief minister directed that such officers should be selected for these training courses who had interest and experience in the relevant field.

He said there was a need to improve the prosecution system and maintain a close liaison between the departments concerned for the early disposal of cases and brining criminal elements to justice.

Mr Shahbaz said 100 model police stations were being set up in the province where the entire process from registration of FIR to the challan would be completed expeditiously and in a transparent manner.

He directed the IG Police to evolve a complete programme of training for making the police a smart and intelligent force.

The chief minister directed the Home Secretary to prepare a working paper with the help of the Secretary Prosecution and the IG Police for the early disposal of pending cases so that justice could be provided to the people.

Inspector General Punjab Police Haji Habibur Rehman gave a briefing regarding law and order and the measures taken for the eradication of crimes.

The IGP informed the meeting that 17 different training courses were being conducted for officers of the Punjab police under the agreement between the Punjab police and the Turk police.

He said police officers had undergone training in advanced field operation and anti-terrorism in Turkey.

He said open kutcheris were being conducted throughout the province for the solution to people’s problems and addressing their complaints.

The reconciliation committees had been constituted for dealing with complaints of the people at lower level, he said and added that a feedback system had also been evolved to receive people’s reaction.

The IGP said that 44,866 proclaimed offenders had been arrested during the last five months while effective action had been taken against the gangs involved in kidnapping for ransom, dacoity, murder and other heinous crimes.
