ISLAMABAD, May 25: People residing in the surroundings of I.J. Principal Road on Friday staged a violent protest against loadshedding, damaging pubic and private property, police said.

Over 300 residents of Sector I-10, its adjacent localities and Khayaban-i-Sir Syed gathered on the road near Katarian. They blocked both lanes of the capital’s main artery by burning tyres and pelted vehicles with stones. As a result, the road saw a worst traffic jam.

Shortly after getting information, the area police reached the spot, but failed to control the angry mob. Later, the city administration also reached there on the request of the police. The protesters were chanting slogans against the government.

Till the filling of the report negotiations between the police and the protesters were in progress. — Staff Reporter
